The ‘nanny states of edtech’?

ed-invent is about putting educators at the heart of edtech, but we probably couldn’t even run a seminar in New York, Chicago or LA where local laws could see our participants facing fines or even jail for developing their own edtech ideas!

Mary Jo Madda’s story in edsurge is an absolute must-read for anyone involved in US edtech. These regulations seem to be a perfect example of the law of unintended consequences. The result is not just anti-educational, but seems to run counter to the whole pro-enterprise culture that’s the basis of the US tech industry.

Ironically, the home of free enterprise now looks more like the ‘nanny states of edtech’!
